How To Get More Twitter Followers For Your Business

It’s becoming increasingly inefficient if not impossible to run a successful business and not have a presence in the world of social media. While there are a variety of social media platforms to post on and interact with, Twitter is by far a very effective way to engage with people and turn interaction into traffic. This is a very good thing to pursue and try to achieve, but it will almost always be dependent on the sheer number of Twitter followers you have. Many people opt for the “follow everyone” rule since a few people will always follow you back, but you run the risk of building an ineffectual account filled with spammers. So, here are some slower, albeit much more effective, ways to increase the number of Twitter followers for your business.

Start tweeting!

The first and most important way to get followers is to tweet. Many businesses set up a Twitter account and then leave the account alone and expect people to follow it. Even if there is a program set up to automatically tweet updates or posts from your blog, that still isn’t good enough. You need to write your own posts and make them engaging (more on what to write about later). But, the first step to get followers is to tweet.

Let people know you’re on Twitter

If you have a vibrant social media life on Facebook or have a lot of visitors on your website, let them know you have a Twitter account. Encourage your friends and followers from all platforms to follow you on Twitter. There are also a number of plugins for websites that let you have a “Follow” button on the site, but by simply saying “I also have a Twitter account, so follow me today!” will help get your loyal customers.

Tweet about what you know, but have fun

A majority of your tweets should be about something related to your business like an interesting statistic or a cool article you’ve read. But, there should also be a portion about nearly anything. Going off topic will broaden your reach and make you seem like less of a robot.

Tweet often (but not too often)

This extends from the first tip: starting tweeting and keep tweeting. Tweet during peak times (business hours or on weekends) and maintain a steady flow of tweets. However, you also want to be cautious that you don’t over tweet because you could run the risk of losing followers.

Interact and respond

Your tweets should be diverse, but one thing that’s vital to getting more followers and exposure is to retweet, respond and interact with other tweeters. Mentioning people and replying to tweets will make your business become more personable and real.

Hold a contest

Contests are always great ways to up the number of Twitter followers. Give away something related to your business to those who follow you and tweet something. That way their followers will be inclined to become a follower.
